Discussion Forum with the UN Interagency Framework for Coordination on Preventive Action
As part of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform‘s efforts to build bridges and work relationships between its constituency and outside hubs of peacebuilding practitioners and policy, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform hosted Gay Rosenblum-Kumar and Chetan Kumar from the New York based United Nations Interagency Framework for Coordination on Preventive Action (Framework Team).
The meeting provided an opportunity for Geneva-based practitioners to learn of the methods and operations practices of the Framework Team, and for the FT to explore opportunities for coordination and possible synergy.
The meeting also allowed members of the Geneva peacebuilding community – including representatives from NGOs, various UN agencies and the Swiss government – to ask questions and make suggestions as to how the Geneva community could contribute to the Framework Team‘s efforts.
Referring to partnerships with practitioners in Geneva, the Team called for assistance in the recruitment of PDAs, who due to their unique skill requirements remain in short supply; for linkages at the international and regional levels in order to facilitate the political negotiation required for Country Team access; and, finally, for operational support and expertise. In their turn, members of the Geneva community offered avenues of shared interest that would cover the social integration process of DDR and natural resource management.
