International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL)

The main purpose of the Institute is to teach International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, Refugee Law and Migration Law. It has a well-developed training programme for military personnel, lawyers, officials from governments and non-governmental organisations and other interested parties, as well as university graduates and faculty members. It favours reflection and exchanges of views and experiences, promotes research and publishes findings on new developments in the field. It has also shown how the laws of Human Rights, Humanitarian Law, Refugee Law and Migration Law, are all inter-related and inter-dependent.

For more than thirty-five years now, the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL) has acted as a forum, acquiring a reputation for excellence in the promotion, dissemination and teaching of International Humanitarian Law for participants from all over the world. Its primary aim is to achieve the development and application of International Humanitarian Law in all its dimensions, such as situations of armed conflict, as well as cases of refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants.

On 3 rd September, the President of the Institute and Admiral Marcantonio Trevisani, in the presence of Gen. Vincenzo Camporini, Chief of the Italian Defence General Staff , signed an agreement of co-operation with the Centre for High Studies in Defence (CASD). According to the agreement the Institute would collaborate with CASD in the organisation of activities aimed at encouraging the promotion of international humanitarian law.

On 2nd October at the CoESPU (Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units) in Vicenza, the President of the Institute signed an agreement of co-operation with Gen. On 23rd July the Institute formalised an agreement of co-operation with the NATO School of Oberammergau. The President of the Institute and Col. James Tabak, Commander from the School, signed a document in the presence of high-ranking national representatives and heads of departments at the School. According to the agreement of co-operation, representatives of the Institute would participate as teachers at the courses and activities organised by the NATO School of Oberammergau.
