Work Streams

The 2012-2014 Programme frames Platform activities within, but not limited to, five selected focus themes. The five themes are:

  1. Peacebuilding, peacemaking, and political transitions;
  2. Peacebuilding and prevention;
  3. Peacebuilding and the environment;
  4. Monitoring, evaluation and learning in peacebuilding; and
  5. Sustainable peace and justice.

These focus areas have been identified though a consultation process in 2011 involving the Platform’s Steering and Management Committees, the Platform’s Advisory Board, and other Platform partners.

Over a period of three years, progress on the focus themes will evolve gradually. In 2012, the Platform initiated several efforts on “Peacebuilding, peacemaking, and political transitions” and on “Peacebuilding and prevention”. The Platform has also advanced a series of efforts related to emerging and important topics that fall outside of the five focus themes.

Work on the focus themes involves an iterative and outcome-oriented process design. Careful attention will be played not to duplicate any efforts currently underway by other actors. The processes will also be synchronised as far as possible with the international political calendar, and major peacebuilding events.

Progress in the work streams also occurs within the framework of an integrated knowledge management strategy that distils the substantive contribution of events into publications that can then be used as inputs into future efforts in a particular work stream.
