Community Management

The Geneva Peacebuilding Platform works to strengthen networking and community-building among traditional and nontraditional peacebuilding actors.

In 2015, the Platform began advancing technical working groups (TWG) as dedicated initiatives to facilitate exchange amongst expert communities. The first TWG on the confluence of urban safety and peacebuilding practice generated significant results in terms of networking and advancing new knowledge and thinking on peacebuilding. This TWG has also confirmed this format of networking as an effective means to manage exchanges across sectors and institutions, and between smaller expert groups with the result of deeper network relationships. As part of its 2018-2019 Programme, the Platform maintained the existing TWG on urban safety and peacebuilding, developed an additional exchange on business and peace, and advanced additional topics though a TWG format as they arose.

Today, topics are advanced through a process of community management, outlined in the 2020-2021 Programme

More specifically, the Platform is:

  • Developing and implementing a networking & community management strategy

  • Identifying, incubating, and accompanying three thematic processes

  • And maintaining a network management system

‘Community management’ can be understood as the process of organizing a network of professionals around the common cause. It aims to generate collaboration and cohesion around a joint objective in order to: facilitate knowledge exchange; develop synergies; mobilize for action around joint initiatives; advance new solutions and approaches; and increase the overall impact of a given field.
