As part of a sustained dialogue with the Peacebuilding Support Office in New York, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform held on 11 June 2010 an informal discussion with Brian James Williams, Chief, Financing for Peacebuilding, Peacebuilding Support Office.
The meeting was convened to introduce Mr Williams to Geneva Peacebuilding Platform stakeholders and to give him the opportunity to share with this audience the office’s vision to enhance the relevance of the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).
The discussion consisted in an interactive exchange on ways to address the challenges currently hampering the PBF’s capacity to realize its full potential as a key funding tool for peacebuilding.
Specifically, issues discussed related to resource mobilization, monitoring and evaluation, engagement strategies, and implementation capacity. Overall, participants emphasized that the PBF needs to better engage the civil society in the countries where it is engaged; to actively cooperate with the Peacebuilding Commission on political issues; and to improve, on a systemic level, conflict analysis and conflict-sensitive programming.
