After a transition year led by interim Executive Coordinator Rainer Gude, the Management and Steering Committees of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform are pleased to introduce the Platform’s new Executive Coordinator, Dr. Annyssa Bellal.
The Committees offer their sincere gratitude to Rainer Gude for his phenomenal and compassionate leadership through a year of transition not only within the organization, but also navigating the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for Geneva writ large. Alexandre Munafò, Management Committee member, Interpeace, says, "Rainer’s leadership in navigating a challenging 2021 year has been remarkable. His vision and his truly collaborative spirit have been critical in ensuring the Platform’s continued impact in uncertain COVID times including the holding of successful Geneva Peace Talks and the Geneva Peace Week. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
“It’s been an absolute delight working with Rainer throughout 2021, as he guided the Platform through this transition. We know that wherever his road takes him, those that meet him along the path will be lucky to have met him too!,” says Florence Foster, Management Committee Member, Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO).
Rainer adds: “It has been a real pleasure to be part of this transition year. Coming into a great team and collectively taking on the challenges of the year was a great experience and I am proud of what we achieved. I am hugely grateful to the team, the platform partners and everyone we have collaborated with. I am also delighted that we found someone like Annyssa to carry forward and build on what we built this year.”
Dr. Annyssa Bellal comes to the Platform with many years of experience in Geneva, with expertise in armed non-state actors, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law. She is a Strategic Advisor and Senior Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy, a lecturer at the University of Bern and Sciences Po in Paris, and worked previously with Geneva Call. She received her PhD in Public International Law from the Graduate Institute Geneva.
“It is an honor to be able to contribute to the Platform’s important work. I look forward to joining the team to continue finding innovative and dynamic ways to reinforce dialogue on peacebuilding issues in international Geneva,” says Annyssa.
Hans Born, Management Committee Member from DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance says, “We are delighted to start working with Annyssa and we are sure that with her we will be able to bring the Platform to the next level.” And Florence Foster adds: “We are looking forward to this new chapter for the Platform, under Annyssa’s leadership. Her rich set of experiences will no doubt spark new ideas and strengthen our current initiatives!”
Dr. Bellal will join the Platform from January 2022, and we look forward to kicking off the new year together.
