Where Next in Peacebuilding? The View from Geneva, Washington, DC and New York

The View from Geneva, Washington, DC and New York

Both inside and outside of the United Nations, peacebuilding practitioners and experts are in the process of coming to grips with the implications of multiple policy developments. These include the 2011 World Development Report on Conflict, Security and Development, the New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States, and the Peacebuilding and Statebuilding Goals articulated in the Monrovia Road Map of the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding. This is a global discussion, yet the flavor of the conversation differs in each policy center. Here in New York, the Peacebuilding Commission continues to implement recommendations from its 2010 review with varying results, while the United Nations as a whole tries to better connect the various peacebuilding activities across agencies and departments.

Melanie Greenberg, President & CEO of the Alliance for Peacebuilding and Achim Wennmann, Executive Coordinator of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform will provide an update on the current state of peacebuilding from their perspectives, which we hope will set the stage for an informal discussion and exchange of views to follow.
