The GPP Contributes to Global Dialogue on IHL and Peace

On 26 May 2025, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform’s (GPP) Executive Director, Dr. Annyssa Bellal, was invited to contribute to the first state consultation on “International Humanitarian Law and Peace,” organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross. This online consultation, took place under the framework of the Global Initiative to Galvanize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law.

As part of Workstream 3 on “IHL and Peace,” the consultation aimed to explore how international humanitarian law can be more effectively leveraged in mediation processes to support sustainable and lasting peace. Dr. Bellal statement brought her insights from an IHL and peacebuilding perspective.

Her contribution emphasized the importance of integrating IHL principles into peace processes, highlighting the role of legal frameworks in strengthening trust, protecting civilian populations, and ensuring that negotiated settlements are durable and rights-respecting.

This engagement reflects GPP’s ongoing commitment to supporting inclusive and informed peace processes by bridging policy, practice, and research across sectors.
